In 1966, Paul Van Doren had a vision in Southern California that grew over the years to inspire youth culture the world over, including one young boy growing up skateboarding in Liverpool, England. In 1999, Geoff Rowley, by then a young professional skateboarder, tapped deeply into his passion for Vans to design his first signature professional skateboarding shoe for the company. As a result, whole new generation of skateboarders around the world were introduced to Vans’ unique heritage. Find out what all the fuss is about with the release of the [ROWLEY] PRO this Spring as Vans Pro Skate honors the shoe that would go on to revolutionize skate footwear and influence virtually every significant skate shoe that followed.

VANS ORIGINAL WAFFLE OUTSOLE

Vans ORIGINAL WAFFLE Outsole
Back in ’66, Paul van Doren made the first soles of his new shoes twice as thick so they would wear longer and, unlike other shoe manufacturers, he used pure crepe rubber with no filler. That decision ended up shaping the company when the world’s first skateboarders discovered how Vans’ now-famous ORIGINAL WAFFLE outsole gum rubber compound let them feel their boards while keeping them firmly connected to them.
